Virtue of Selfishness

Hi.

Ayn Rand (an author from the 1960's) once wrote: "...life is an end to itself, so every living human being is an end in himself, not the means to the ends or the welfare of others- and- therefore, that man must live for his own sake, neither sacrificing himself to others nor sacrificing others to himself. To live his own sake means the achievement of his own happiness is man's highest moral purpose."

If this is so: then why do we concern ourselves about what other people think and wish for us?

We live our lives based on the norm which is a healthy family, stable job and being well liked and accepted by society... why?

If our purpose is happiness- why do we allow people who do not aid our happiness to affect our lives so?

I have a couple of situations which are currently playing off in my life which definetly do not aid in my happiness but yet I allow them into my life.... crazy....

We live, work, love all for the means of another- and not always for us.

It needs to change. I need to change. Perhaps I should start a revolution.

Is it selfish of me to want happiness for me? Self-content for me.... a healthy wealthy me?

Screw the people that don't aid in my ends.

I want happiness!
xx
